Breastfeeding Guidance Booklet

Why do I need this? There's so much to know!

How do I use it? Reference this booklet for explanations on why and how to use each product in the bundle (plus descriptions of products not included with advice on when & why they might be relevant); evidence-based cheat sheets with tips and advice on common issues and questions; and words of wisdom and support from other parents.

Burp cloth

Why do I need this? To save your clothes from spit ups, which often happens when babies are burped. Burping is important because it helps get rid of uncomfortable gas bubbles that get stuck in baby's stomach from swallowing some air during feeds. Spitting up is very common independently of burping too, especially in the first several months of life when the lower esophageal sphincter is still developing (this is the muscle between the esophagus and stomach that closes after you swallow to keep food from coming back up.)

How do I use it? Drape across your shoulder or lap before you burp your baby and keep handy for cleaning up spitup.

Which brand? These Little Unicorn burp cloths are something special: thick and large (but not annoyingly big), with four quilted layers of 100% cotton muslin to be extra absorbent, curved sides to fit the curve of your shoulder, and reversible with a pattern on one side and solid color on the other. Moms rave about their quality. Your bundle includes one muslin burp cloth in the pretty and neutral Taupe Cross pattern.

Nursing pads

Why do I need this? To keep your shirt and bra dry from leakage.

How do I use it? Place between your bra and breasts with absorbent side facing breast. Machine wash and dry using the laundry bag included.

Which brand? Your reusable nursing pads (10-count) from Kindred Bravely are highly rated and cover all the bases of what you might want in a reusable pad: made of soft organic bamboo, highly absorbent, machine washable (laundry bag included), contoured to stay in place in your bra. They also come in a cute waterproof bag that you can use at home to store your clean pads, or when you're out and about to discretely stash pads that get wet.

Nipple balm

Why do I need this? To soothe and heal dry, cracked, or sore nipples, which is common in the early weeks as your breasts get used to nursing. Nipple balm hydrates the skin of your nipple, promoting healing between nursing sessions and making you more comfortable. If you have persistent cracked nipples, abrasions, or bleeding, an IBCLC can help you evaluate and fix the cause.

How do I use it? With clean hands, first apply colostrum or expressed milk to the nipple, then air dry and apply balm.

Which brand? Earth Mama’s organic nipple butter is effective and a very popular choice among moms. This rich, moisturizing, and buttery cream is safe for your baby’s mouth, non-GMO verified, and uses no petroleum, preservatives, or lanolin (lanolin is a common ingredient in nipple creams and is safe for babies, but some moms prefer to avoid it because of pesticides used in the process of obtaining lanolin from wool). Your bundle includes the 2 fl. oz. (60 mL) size jar.

Cooling & warming packs

Why do I need this? IBCLCs often recommend cold therapy to ease inflammation and swelling (cold reduces blood flow). On the other hand, a warm compress increases blood flow, which can reduce muscle pain and encourage milk flow.

How do I use it? Freeze, insert in protective cloth covering, and apply to breasts in between nursing sessions for up to 20 mins at a time to relieve pain and swelling from engorgement. For warm therapy, heat pack in microwave per package instructions and apply to breast before nursing or pumping to encourage letdown. Do not use heat between nursing sessions as it can worsen swelling.

Which brand? These Lansinoh reusable breast therapy packs are the most popular brand of cool/warm breast packs on the market. They are soft and flexible so conform well to the breast, have a hole in the middle to make them compatible with any breast pump, and have a protective washable cloth covering to more gently transfer the cold or warmth to the skin and breast. The box includes 2 reusable gel packs with 2 washable covers.

Haakaa

Why do I need this? To catch and collect extra milk. The Haakaa works by suctioning to the breast and collecting milk while your baby nurses on the opposite breast, and it comes in handy for catching leaks that may otherwise be lost in a nursing pad and for gently pumping extra milk that you can save for later. Some moms also use it for clogged ducts; see Content Library for a video on how to use it this way.

How do I use it? Squeeze the round body of the pump and place it centered over your nipple on the breast opposite the one you are nursing on. Release your grip and the suction should secure the pump to your breast. Many IBCLCs recommend only using on the breast that baby has already fed from, both to ensure proper weight gain by enabling baby to get the easy initial milk flow, as well as to avoid potential oversupply issues. Wash after each use. Dishwasher safe, and safe to sterilize with any steam sterilizing system or boiling water.

Which brand? What doees Haakaa have in common with Google, Post-It, and Tupperware? It's a brand with a standout product that is so ubiquitous that the brand itself has become a generic term for the product. It seems that most breastfeeding moms today at least try it to see if it works for them. Your Haakaa is the 5oz Gen 2 Silicone Pump with lid to avoid spills.

Milk storage bags

Why do I need this? Use milk storage bags to safely store breastmilk in the fridge (up to 4 days) or freezer (6-12 months) to feed to your baby later. They come with a large area to write the date and number of ounces in the bag.

How do I use it? To store, remove excess air from the filled bag, seal, and lay flat in freezer to freeze. Once frozen, store upright to keep your milk stash organized so you can use up your milk from oldest to newest.

Which brand? Many moms love the Medela bags because they are very sturdy, making them easy to stand upright on their own and to pour milk into bottles. Your bundle includes a pack of 50 bags.

Nursing cover

Why do I need this? A nursing cover can come in handy for when you need to nurse in public but want a bit of privacy. It's not a requirement, as breastfeeding is not anything you need to hide, but many moms feel more comfortable using one and say it helps them not feel chained to being at home. A nursing cover is also helpful if your baby gets easily distracted while eating, and has lots of other uses (see below).

How do I use it? The nursing cover in your bundle is designed like an infinity scarf so you can wear it around your neck and pull it down when your baby feeds. This type of nursing cover is also versatile; even if you choose not to use it when nursing, many moms love to use it as a cover for a car seat (its universal fit allows for handle access), highchair, shopping cart, or stroller.

Which brand? Itzy Ritzy, a mom-and-dad founded company creating stylish parenting gear, has one of the most popular nursing covers on the market, called the Mom Boss 4-in-1 Multi-Use Nursing Cover and Scarf. It's very breathable and stretchy, and lots of moms also love it for its versatility even if they don't use it for nursing. Your bundle includes the black & white stripe pattern.

Water bottle

Why do I need this? We've included this as a gift for you! You'll probably get more thirsty than usual while breastfeeding so we wanted to share a little something extra to help you stay hydrated. This 24oz water bottle is BPA-free, dishwasher safe, and has a flip straw lid for easy straw sipping that you can flip back to seal to keep the straw from getting dirty.

How do I use it? Keep it filled and nearby wherever you nurse. Machine washable top rack. Do not microwave.

Testimonials

Casey J.

Mom of James, 4 months

“I find it nearly impossible to cut through the noise of biased product recs online - it seems more and more IG mom influencers are "selling out" and doing so many partnerships. It's refreshing to have a place I can turn for a simple collection of products other moms truly love.”

Kelly B.

Mom of Emma (6), Teddy (3) & baby #3 due soon

“Maybe because I'm juggling several kids and my job I appreciate TIME more than anything, and these Mamieli bundles are saving me so much time getting all the postpartum things I need at once before my third is born in a couple weeks.”

Emma F.

Mom of Abigail (4) and Max (2)

“Mamieli nailed the products in the PP and baby health bundles - I know from experience they work and yes, you need them all. The breastfeeding bundle is probably amazing too but I wasn't able to breastfeed so can't speak to that one.”

Caroline C.

Friend of a soon-to-be first time mama

"The first of my friends is having a baby and I really have no clue about any of this stuff! These bundles feel so thoughtful and helpful for the mom which is what I want to gift her as opposed to only baby toys or clothes.”

Maxi B.

Mom of baby boy on the way

"I've added all the bundles to my registry because they cover so much ground, and a lot of these items are just not giftable as one-off products. For example I feel weird adding a thing of nipple balm to my registry but honestly I'd rather be gifted useful things. It also makes it easier for my friends and family to gift a cohesive package instead of a bunch of one-off things."

    Above and beyond!

As a third time mom, I'm no stranger to the world of postpartum recovery supplies. I do have to express my genuine appreciation for being able to get literally everything all in one box, rather than trying to order it all from amazon or target in one go to save on shipping. I love that not only do you get all of the supplies you actually need to use (without any random junk that collects dust or doesn't get used) but you get the awesome little booklet that tells you how to use everything, what to expect during postpartum recovery, where to find help and resources, and just how to take care of yourself. That's something that you don't see anywhere else and is a really really good addition for new moms, because when we have our first babies we are usually pretty lost and unsure of what to do next or what's normal and what's not. I wish I had that when I had my first baby! I've attached some pics and a video to my review here, if you're on the fence about buying it I would just go for it. If the price is deterring you, try adding up the items you'll already be buying and you'll see that it may actually come out to quite a bit more to buy them all separately, and you don't get the awesome booklet and tote bag with it.

I truly love this postpartum recovery box, I 100% recommend it to any expecting mom!! You WILL need it and you WILL appreciate the little booklet (did I mention that already!? lol)

    A mom MUST have!

This bundle is everything you need for starting solids! I wish I had this in the beginning of our BLW journey. Each item is an essential item you’ll use over and over. The Bapron is a staple and my favorite item in this bundle! My favorite part is this bundle extends into toddlerhood!

    The best postpartum bundle

This box of essential recovery items is curated perfectly for a first time moms as well as myself, a recent fourth time mom. I gifted this box to a first time mom a few months ago at a baby shower. When she went into labor a few weeks early she was so happy to have this box at home with everything she needed for an effortless recovery with her little one. I ordered a second one for myself as I was expecting my fourth. It was AMAZING. There were old stand by items like Tucks, stool softeners and a peri bottle, but then there were surprise favorites like the Frida Mom boy shorts and Rael period underwear that made the first two weeks of recovery more enjoyable. With my past few babies I've sent my partner to the store or ordered last minute things on Amazon for recovery. This time, I just popped open my Mamieli box and had everything I needed. I also enjoyed the postpartum guide that empowered me to get out there for gentle walks a lot sooner. I'm feeling the best two weeks postpartum with baby #4 than I have felt with any of my other postpartum journeys. Item quality is excellent and order fulfillment was also very fast. Thank you Mamieli.

Really liked having these items at the hospital

I was gifted this bundle and used all three products during my recovery at the hospital and afterwards, and I really loved all three. The gown was so comfy to change into after my first shower which was the best thing ever. Same with the socks. I felt so fresh having these to change into instead of back into a hospital gown and socks. My thoughts on each item

    - The gown is very easy to nurse and do skin to skin in, and I actually kept using it at home during the first few weeks of recovery. Hot tip: do not wear this during labor! Maybe that goes without saying, but def wear the hospital one for the actual labor since it will get gross and then change into this comfy one in the maternity ward.

    - The socks were comfortable even with my swollen feet/cankles. They have better grip than the hospital ones did. I’ve been using them for Pilates now that I’ve had the all clear.

    - The eye mask is SO comfortable and was amazing to get cat naps of sleep whenever I could at the hospital since it was always pretty bright in the room even at night due to the machines. Eye masks usually give me a headache but this one was so comfy, and it really blocks all the light and doesn’t stain the pillowcase. I will be bringing it with me when I travel/ on flights.

All in all I really appreciated this box and it will be a go to gift for friends of mine that are pregnant

On-the-go box came in handy on my family vacation

I bought this On-the-Go travel box after seeing it on Tiktok because it spoke to me as someone who was a big traveler before my baby and who wanted to continue embracing that travel lifestyle afterwards too, despite all the naysayers who told me I wouldn't be able to do it! Well, we booked a trip to Europe this summer with our 10-month old and while it was definitely different from previous travels it was a great experience, and literally *everything* in this bundle was put to use: the bottle cleaner for cleaning my pump parts in hotel bathrooms, the wipes and baggie dispenser for diaper changes in restaurants and airplane, the snack cup (which I got a lot of questions from other parents about where I got it - it's morepeas brand which I hadn't heard of) for puffs for my baby now that he's having solids, and my favorite of all -- the dolphin toiletry kit!! I filled the dolphins with my son's shampoo, his baby laundry detergent (for cleaning clothes & hang drying in hotel bathrooms), and dish soap for cleaning bottles. The cute bag the dolphins come in was also useful for loading with other baby things, which kept them organized and separate from my toiletries (baby toothbrush, baby sunscreen, and thermometer, infant tylenol w/ syringe just in case). HIGHLY recommend this whole bundle for traveling parents and think it would make a really cute gift too.
